Most of my chart rules are about when not to trade.

By Alan Solarsh · 3 November 2026

Most of my chart rules are about when not to trade.

Here is one. If price is within $50 of the 200 moving average, that is a no-trade zone, full stop.

Let's say the 200 moving average on gold sits at $2,000 and price is at $2,030. That is only $30 away. I do nothing. Not a small trade, nothing.

Price needs to be more than $50 to $80 away from the 200 moving average before it is worth looking for a setup. In my example, I wait for gold to move well past $2,050 to $2,080 first.

Looking is not trading. It just means the chart has earned a second look. This is what I do, and it keeps me out of trades I would only be guessing at.

Today's chart, explained: https://forexrobots.co.za/daily-chart-analysis-2026-10-30-1622/?utm_source=social&utm_medium=pillar&utm_campaign=mentor-2026-11-03
