One small candle made you take a trade you promised to skip.

By Alan Solarsh · 7 November 2026

One small candle made you take a trade you promised to skip. Now your loss keeps growing while you watch.

Your gold chart has just made a sharp jump. A small doji appears, and its open and close are almost level. You buy early on a guess, and the loss keeps growing.

A doji forms when price opens and closes at almost the same level. It shows buyers and sellers were evenly matched for that short time. Read the candles before it, then wait for the next candle to close.

Pros: It shows when the market feels unsure, so you can slow down. It also stops you from reacting to one candle alone.

Cons: A doji does not tell you which way price will go next. It needs patience, because you must wait for the following candles to close.

I use the Learn to Read a Forex Chart course, which shows what a doji means.
