Daily trading lesson

Every trade starts with a small cost called the spread.

By Alan Solarsh · 4 November 2026

Every trade starts with a small cost called the spread. That cost can widen when you trade very early or very late.

Check the spread before you place any trade. Compare it with the spread in the busy middle of a session. Wait for a busier time if the gap looks wide.

Pros: You often pay a smaller cost when you trade in busier hours. Checking also shows what a trade really costs.

Cons: Checking the spread does not tell you where price will go. Busier hours may not fit your work day, so you need patience.

I use the Forex Time Zone Calculator to see the busy hours for the US dollar.
